HSL wins 260 Crore contract to build 4 Tugs for Navy
The Government-owned Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has bagged a 260 Crore contract for constructing four tug boats for the Indian Navy. These are 50 T Bollard Pull Tugs of the Himmat class.
Chairman and Managing Director of HSL Rear Admiral LV Sarat Babu (Retired) said his Shipyard won the contract in a competitive tender involving both private sector and other public sector shipyards.
The Vizag-based HSL has earlier manufactured three such Tugs for the Indian Navy. This Tug is powered by two Italian Wartsila engines - each with a power of 2412KW - which drive a German Voith Schneider propulsion system.
The speed achieved during sea trials was in excess of 13 Knots against the contractual requirement of 12 Knots. The Bollard pull achieved for the vessel is in excess of 53 tons.
The Himmat class Tugs are built under special survey of IRS Steel ship Rules and have been assigned with IRS class notation. The vessel has a tonnage of 472, and is 34.54 metres in length and 11.26 metres in breadth. It has a depth of 4.49 metres.
